Our Vision

We envision creating a fun, playful, safe and secure life for our family, with an emphasis on lifelong learning, education and healthy living.  Taking excellent care of our child will be our highest priority.

We look forward to sharing our home, our love, and our community with our child.  Every day we’ll prepare and eat healthy meals together (organic as much as possible), read, play and cuddle.  A typical weekend might include a nature hike in the Marin hills, a visit to a museum, a picnic and playing in a park or the beach, time in the garden, reading and snuggling.  Friends and family members will regularly be included for meals, gatherings and celebrations.

From the beginning, we intend to stay as connected and close to the baby as possible. For example, we don’t expect to use a stroller much at all, and instead will carry our baby in a baby carrier next to our body and interact as much as possible.  For the first six to twelve months, we’ll have our baby in our room at night and will be available for comforting and nurturing throughout the night and day.

Our child will be adored and always know she or he is loved.  We intend to share responsibilities fully, from diaper changing to play time.  While providing opportunities for learning, exploration, adventure and play, we’ll always encourage independent and creative self-expression.  We’ll establish clear boundaries that will expand as our child develops.  We’ll be very actively involved with our child every step of the way.

In addition to loving children, we also love animals.  Mia, our beautiful “British Blue” cat, will be part of our life with our child, and in a few years, we plan to get a child-friendly dog.  We believe it will be rewarding for our child to play with pets and have some responsibility for their care.

We intend to continue our active lifestyle, and look forward to teaching our child how to swim and including our child in our various outdoor adventures.  We’ll have lots of fun and hope to foster an appreciation of nature and all life on this planet.

Appreciation of other places and cultures is important to us.  Between us, we’ve traveled to over 50 countries, and have led service learning courses, adventures and retreats.  We plan to share our love of travel and other cultures, places, music and more with our child.

For instance, we’ll expose our child to a variety of “world” music, and we have a collection of percussive instruments and guitars for impromptu music jams!  When we travel, we’ll learn about the local geography and customs, and we’ll make sure to get a taste of the local life and environment.

We are elated to be able to share our love, our life and our home with a child.  We intend to involve our child’s birth family and will include them in our child’s life as much as they would like to be included.  If we sound like the kind of people you’d like to raise your child, we can’t wait to hear from you!
